One of the largest gay beaches in Latin America, Playa los Muertos tops many of the best lists. It receives its macabre name from the fact that the area was a cemetery before the graves were removed and the area was redeveloped as a beach.

Not surprisingly, they sometimes call it “Blue Chairs,” the name of a popular seaside resort at the southern tip of Los Muertos. Thousands of gay sun-lovers come to the area in winter – especially around Christmas and New Year – to absorb the rays, the open-minded and friendly atmosphere and the splendid views of Banderas Bay. You can even see a herd of dolphins or whales.
When the sun goes down, head to one of the nightclubs a few steps away in the Romantic Zone, the gay neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta.
